where to stay in lisbon, portugal
Located in Lisbon’s Estrela neighborhood, Toctoctoc Lisboa offers a unique blend of boutique hotel elegance and guesthouse warmth. This ten-room retreat, curated by owners Pascale and Olivier Moreau, is a haven of tranquility amidst the city's vibrant energy. This has to be a top hotel for me just because it’s a true boutique hotel, the staff is incredible, and the amenities are amazing.
Each of the 9 rooms has a unique design. All pieces are hand chosen by the owners.
Each room at Toctoctoc Lisboa is thoughtfully designed, featuring eclectic treasures collected from the owners' global travels. The rooms range from vintage and bohemian chic styles, ensuring a unique experience for every guest. Amenities include air conditioning, heating, and views of either the garden or cityscape.
amenities
There are many common spaces on the property including sitting areas outside the bedrooms, 2 commons areas, a kitchen, and a garden with an honor bar. The garden feels away from the city and is perfect for enjoying breakfast or an evening drink. From June to September, you can enjoy a buffet breakfast featuring homemade breads, jams, cheeses, and fresh fruits in the garden. Gluten-free and vegan options are available upon request! Every day, there is also complimentary coffee, tea, and cake for guests in the lobby. I had some every night and I have to say the lemon and yogurt cake were my favorite!
the staff
The staff here is amazing! Once I checked in, I got a tour of the property before being shown to my room. My room was cleaned everyday and I was left note cards with recommendations for what to do during the day throughout the city based on the weather. The owners always seem to be nearby as they have a boutique store across the street.
the location
The hotel isn’t in the city center so if you want to go out partying, then this probably won’t be the best location. BUT I was looking for a quiet area still walking distance to different neighborhoods, close to restaurants and cafes, and this was perfect. If you want to get somewhere Ubers are easy to get here (even at 2AM when I had to leave for the airport). There are a ton of cafes down the street and if you’re good with walking uphill there are a lot of upscale restaurants in Principe Real as well.
